#BanTheADL | A Response to Academic Agent
Organic Movements Within A Complex Systems Theory: A Case Study
On the Dissident Right, there is this maladaptive consensus by which a political movement can never be organic. It is imagined to always be ordered down by the higher-ups like the CIA, the president’s administration, the billionaire class and in case you are a little bit “special”, then the Masons, WEF/Globalists, China or the Russians.
Whenever there is evidence to the contrary it is typically dismissed as either being “insignificant” or as a psyop. The biggest promoter of this “power-slop” is Neema Parvini, known on the internet as the Academic Agent who for whatever reason does not equate his own nor his circle’s political activity on the internet to a psyop and seems to believe that whatever he is doing is organic and also ideological, despite releasing a video arguing that ideology does not exist nor it matters and it’s just power. The video has been brilliantly taken down by Keith Woods and so, I will not be repeating the points that he made in relation to AA in order to save time. What I will say though is that, AA did not take the video very well, calling it a “pitiful bid of relevance” not worthy of his time, even though Keith Wood’s video has gotten twice the views his original video did.
Funny enough, even during the recent rapid success of the #BanTheADL movement, the Academic Agent stayed “true” to his ideological dogmas despite the undeniable evidence to the organic nature of the movement. In his jealous tweet, he accused Keith Woods (the originator of the movement), of being “unlegit” because #BanTheADL has achieved such heights, instead of reconsidering his dogmas and entertain the possibility that maybe there are organic movements and the reason that AA’s own ideological Sensible Centrism™ didn’t go anywhere was because it was a “slop tier” political movement, that I have critiqued myself extensively here.
In this short Substack article I will not only prove the Academic Agent wrong but also offer actual useful insights as to how movements like #BanTheADL can be made possible.
The reality, is that social movements largely form and operate within Complex Systems Theory’s assumptions. Here is my own interpretation of the Complex System’s Agent model:
Agents - Those who generate and reproduce ideas within the movement.
Carriers - Those who absorb and reproduce ideas within the movement.
Neutrals - Those who carry informational noise (other ideas) but are able to absorb an idea of the movement.
However, In order for the Agent’s ideas to go anywhere, there needs to be some form of network systems which allow for easier transmission of ideas through the nodes. That is:
Agents are able to successfully propagate their message while carriers are able to spread it even further.
Neutrals are more likely to adopt the ideas because either the informational noise is too low, neutrals agree with the message or a critical mass has been reached.
After enough of encouragement, the ideas form a movement/s that become decentralized and self-sufficient without the need of the original agent.
Here is a model for the transmission of Ideas for an effective grassroots mobilization:
(Agent → Neutral → Carrier) / Informational noise + relative weakness of connective nodes between three variables.
Obviously there are some caveats, like the quality and reach value of each of these three actors, and the space in which ideas get diffused as well as the means by which a diffusion occurs, so always keep that in mind. Furthermore, “neutrals” typically happen to carry similar ideas before hand and so the diffusion of new ideas almost always occurs in accordance with the Homophily principle and Social Identity Theory as opposed to a randomized manner. In the following portion of the article I will explain to you how #BanTheADL movement has met all of these pre-conditions
Stage One: The Public Square
Information on the internet travels much faster than rumors in a small town or even newspapers. However, much like newspapers or those who spread rumors pick the information that they want pass down, so do the social media companies which claim to be our public square. They employ a set of censorious practices and de-incentives in order to get the information that they don’t want to hear, while amplifying and incentivizing information that they do. In 2019 or even worse in 2020 something like #BanTheADL would be shutdown instantaneously while it’s creator Keith Woods would have been suspended in a matter of hours. In-fact he’s been suspended before under the previous management.
However since the acquisition of Twitter/X by Elon Musk, the platform has moved away from the overt anti-Conservative censorious practices of the previous administration thereby providing a fertile ground for Dissident Right Wing thought to take root by unbanning most (but not all!) of DR Intellectuals but also by significantly relaxing the relative terms of service on the platform.
The implications of that are colossal because it allowed for DR ideas to diffuse on Twitter and even oftentimes be liked/retweeted or absorbed by major figures which led to their further diffusion and normalization. Such a condition is necessary for Stage Two.
Stage Two: Network System Dynamics
Much like every other social or political organization, X/Twitter was politically fractured between multiple clusters. The left had it’s own informational vacuum, the Conservatives had their own, while the DR crew also had their own. However we cannot deny that while the informational exchange between the Dissident Right and the Left is near zero, the informational exchange between the DR and the Mainstream Right is about the same as between Woke and the Liberal Left. Thereby informational nodes between the DR and the MR have strengthened enough to a point of our ideas being heard on the MR.
The initial tweet by Keith Woods calling for the ban of the ADL has gotten so much engagement in the Dissident Right sphere that it has quickly spread beyond to the Mainstream Right and even Conservatives like Matt Walsh, Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro together with Libs of TikTok have also jumped on the ship. Elon Musk who liked Keith Woods’ tweets before, eventually saw Keith Woods’ #BanTheADL tweet on his timeline likely only because it began trending on the MR timeline with whom Elon Musk has been almost exclusively interacting with since the late 2022. In other words, you can say, the algorithms have finally began to work in our favour ;)
At that point, you can probably say that the hashtag has reached a critical mass, because the Dissident Right’s arguments against the ADL were not only logically sound and represented a growing tiredness of the organization’s activities but they were also amplified thereby creating a form of a peer-pressure on the MR to a point that even figures like Ben Shapiro have supported the DR arguments behind it (who has otherwise waited for 3-4 days before making a comment on the situation).
To quote Keith Woods
The timing of this was not incidental. Days prior, Jonathan Greenblatt of the ADL announced a productive conversation with new X/Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino. After a somewhat hit-and-miss start to Elon’s reign censorship-wise, it appeared things were going back in the direction the ADL desired. X users were exasperated. Many big accounts began to post information exposing the nefarious workings of the ADL which caught Musk’s attention, including their defence of Julius Malema’s singing of the “Kill the Boer” anthem in South Africa.
Stage Three: Decentralized Diffusion
After an idea becomes mainstream, it experiences organizational decline and decomposition. Major ideas like Marxism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Fascism, Liberalism, Libertarianism, Expressionism, Utilitarianism, Post-Modernism and yes even the Dissident Right are never united, although all of them were once started by the “original agent”. Any dynamic movement eventually grows to have multiple and often opposing factions within it and in some cases loses the original purpose or idea that had once formed the core of the faction. That happens because when a social movement large enough, it generates a greater number of agents who, in turn, reshape the movement from within and sometimes breakaway from it and reconvert carriers to their version of it. Agents innovate because they are naturally predisposed to it, but they only innovate within their social circle.
Whether or not the original movement had an “antisemitic” intent behind it or not (and I believe that it didn’t) the people who are now carrying the torch forward, certainly don’t. That includes Jews like Ashley St. Clair and Avi Yemini, billionaires like Elon Musk, Mainstream Conservatives or even independent investigative journalists centrists like Sulaiman Ahmed who has organized a popular Twitter space featuring Keith Woods and helped him further diffuse his message.
Keith Woods perfectly understands this and has even anticipated that saying the following on September the 2nd:
Eventually the same will happen to my Right-Wing Progressivism or Neo-Progressivism Ideology. It will grow beyond its creator and future agents that are now only its carriers or have not even heard about it, will inevitably transform it into something else. But whatever lies ahead, the passion behind offering a new and innovative general Right Wing Ideology will remain among future RW-Progressives just like the immense dislike of the ADL that has motivated the hashtag #BanTheADL is now motivating Elon Musk’s lawsuit against the ADL.
Keith Wood’s original message was only to ban the ADL, but after enough consensus making and deliberation on the relatively free infrastructure of X/Twitter, the message has effectively transformed into #BankruptTheADL.
Idea 1 → Exposure to Multiple Agents: —> Idea 1 (Ban The ADL)/ Idea 2(Bankrupt The ADL)/ Idea 3(The ADL doesn’t represent Jews)…
Some say that Keith Wood’s original message has been diluted by the informational space that has rapidly absorbed it, however I say, it’s been redirected from words - to effective and democratic change. One thing for certain, the ADL will never enjoy the same privileges and influence that it did before the campaign. Jonathan Greenblatt’s pathetic and unsuccessful attempts at correcting the ADL’s public image have backfired incredibly and the social masses together with our elite class are slowly beginning to realize that the Emperor has no clothes.
